The primary goal of the course is to familiarize students with the basic tenants, institutes and the functioning of the law. The course will present a basic overview of the functioning of the legal system and serve as a good basis for more advanced legal subjects as well as provide sufficient insight to regard the student as being sufficiently legally literate to function in the modern legal environment. The successful student should be able to understand basic legal terminology and basic tenants of the law, evaluate issues of legal significance, form opinions and be able to effectively argument such opinions, apply legally sound reasoning to situations and form legal conclusions, sufficiently competently apply legal interpretations to factual situations and perform other actions. The student should know where to look for advice regarding the more advanced legal dilemmas and to recognize where professional assistance is needed and be able to use such professional assistance effectively. The student should be able to make informed and legally sound decisions in standard legal situations.
